John is an acupuncturist, medical massage therapist and East-Asian medicine practitioner in the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Their areas of expertise are integrative pain management with a dimension of mental health, trauma recovery and soul work. They have done extensive training in neurological conditions and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Additionally, John helps people living with anxiety, depression, migraines, fibromyalgia, digestive and sexual dysfunction. John's medical philosophy is trifold: evidence-informed, biopsychosocial and spiritual. They understand that to truly heal, we need to acknowledge and address all layers of what makes us human. This perspective of practice has been honed for more than two decades of rigorous study and inquiry. |
Originally from Puerto Rico, John started their journey by combining various traditional healing apprenticeships with a Bachelors in Social Sciences at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez where they were able to do research in Caribbean, folk-healing systems from both a psychological and anthropological perspective. John trained in Massage Therapy at Puerto Rico Massage and Bodywork Institute, in San Juan, PR and obtained additional training in Orthopedic Massage, Myofascial Release, Neuromuscular, Structural Bodywork and more. John is a Reiki Master in the Usui tradition. Later on, they obtained a Masters of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco, CA. There they had access to pursue additional certifications in the Yang Shen Qi Gong program and Shiatsu Practice. John had the privilege of training and doing rotations at the Yue Yang hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Shanghai, China with a focus on neurological rehabilitation. Subsequently did externships at the CPMC Davies Regional Rehabilitation Center in San Francisco, one of the top institutions in the nation solely focused on traumatic brain and spinal cord injury. After years of practice they pursued clinical doctoral studies at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, focused on advanced pain management, neurology and gynecology. Finally, John completed a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine degree with a focus on integrative health from the Pacific College of Health and Science in San Diego, CA.
